Dear Senators, I want my hour back!

9/26/2016

Request to join our secret Facebook group only for military sexual trauma survivors of the Canadian Armed Forces.
(invisible to non-members)

Dear Senate, you took the hour intended to discuss rape in the Canadian Armed forces to talk more about peace keeping missions. As a survivor of sexual violence in the military, I want my hour back.
Picture
I just watched the Senate Committee discussing military sexual misconducts in the Canadian Armed Forces ranks. As a survivors of sexual assaults in the military myself, I am kind of interested in the subject...

Result? I want my 55 minutes back

I heard General Vance’s speech about recent progress made to improve my safety and support services for victims like me. Then I waited for the Senators questions... And nothing came.
Instead, the time intent to discuss military rape got high jacked to stretch the discussion about Canadian peace keeping interventions, reserve force capabilities, contingency plans and even making plans to bring Canadian Joint Operations Command to the next discussion.

MY MVP goes to...

MY MVP of this discussion goes to General Vance who kindly tried to redirect the questions to the topic of the day. Thank you sir for keeping your word by making military sexual misconduct a top priority despite senators’ hidden agenda.

MY Special mention

A special mention should also be given to Lieutenant-General Whitecross for candidly answering gender-based questions, again, even when she has so much more to offer. Good job using the ‘’diversity in NATO card’’ to try to bring back the conversation to the topic at hand.

MY ''A for Effort''

A for effort to Sen. Joseph Day: the ONLY Senator who asked questions related to military sexual misconducts. His questions lacked some depth, but a girl can`t get picky at this point.

As for the rest of the Senate, ShAME ON YOU!

  • Don`t you dare expressing outraged when the Canadian Armed Forces fail again to keep track of military sexual misconducts  to care for ‘’more important matters’’.
  • Don`t even think of bringing up military Gender-Based bias when, yourself, are using the most decorated women in the military to only answer gender-based related questions.
Shame on you Senate Committee...
  • For not doing your due diligence
  • For not asking the hard questions on behalf of men and women who got sexually assaulted while serving their country and paid a hefty price.
  • For not giving us OUR time and not representing US!

I want my 55 minutes back!

On behalf of ALL survivors of military sexual traumas, you ought to give us back our 55 minutes. We want you to actually read about the subject and ask intelligible questions. We want you to stop wasting military`s precious time to prepare for a discussion that you don’t event intent to have.  Military culture is the issue? Not today. Not THAT day.  Don`t know what to ask? I am only an email away: itsjust700@gmail.com
For the eternal skeptical out there, have a look at the senate video: http://www.cpac.ca/…/in-committee-from-t…/episodes/49058857/
